WEST BOYLSTON - J. Philip Peterson, 94, of 18 Phelps Place, died yesterday in Medical Center of Central Massachusetts - Hahnemann.


Mr. Peterson's first wife, Ruth I. (Carlson) Peterson, died in 1949. He leaves his wife of 43 years, Anna B. (Lof) Peterson; a daughter, Barbara L. Balfe of South Portland, Me.; a stepson, David A. Anderson of Amherst, N.H.; two grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren. He was born in Worcester, son of Theodore and Hilma (Ekberg) Peterson, and lived in Worcester many years before moving here in 1955. He graduated from North High School and the former Post Business School.




Mr. Peterson was an industrial engineer at Norton Co. for 48 years, retiring in 1964. After that, he did carpentry work in the Worcester area for many years. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, Worcester. He was a Past Noble Grand of Thule Lodge, International Order of Odd Fellows, and the Worcester Lodge. He was a 50-year member of Morning Star Lodge of Masons, Worcester. He was a past president of the 25 Year Club of Norton Retirees, and played in the Norton Co. Band.
