James Wilfred (Bill) Orwig attended Scott High School, Toledo, OH where he played varsity football and basketball.Then he entered the University of Michigan in 1926 and graduated in Physical Education in 1930.He played 3 years of varsity basketball and 1 year of football, and was inducted into several honor societies.Upon graduating from Michigan, he coached football and basketball at Benton Harbor, MI high school.In 1936, he was head coach in football and basketball at Libbey High School in Toledo, OH.In 1946, he was head basketball and football coach at the University of Toledo.
In 1948, he returned to the University of Michigan as coach and scout.
In 1954, he went to the University of Nebraska as Athletic Director.In 1961, he went to Indiana University in Bloomington, IN as Athletic Director.
