Ernst Gosta Reimers was born in Goteborg, Sweden, June 3, 1888. He immigrated to the United States following the outbreak of World War I. Little is known of his family history but his schooling took place in the town of Kalmar where private teachers, among them the noted artist Anders Zorn, supervised his early art training.
Shortly after his arrival in New York City he met Marie Danielson and they were soon married. The couple then moved to Erie, Pennsylvania where he was employed at Erie Forge and Steel beginning in 1915. There he worked as a metallurgist and foreman of the heat treating department.
